Obituary of Charlotte B. Wilcox

Charlotte Catherine Wilcox Lyons Falls-Charlotte Catherine Wilcox, 89, a long time resident of Franklin St. widow of Walter Wilcox, passed away at her home on Thursday evening while under the care of her family and Lewis Co. Hospice. Charlotte was born in Lyons Falls on May 27, 1916, a daughter of Robert S. and Esther Walsh Brown. She grew up in Lyons Falls, where she attended high school. On August 26, 1936 Charlotte was united in marriage with Walter in front of the grandstand at the Lewis Co. Fair in Lowville. According to a newspaper article printed about the wedding, “The chief attraction Wednesday evening ( at the fair,) was the marriage of Walter and Charlotte, where fully 10, 000 people witnessed the wedding. For many years she was a home maker and was employed as a domestic. In later years she assisted in the operation of the family book shop, known as Jim�(TM)s Book Shop which is located on Franklin St. Mrs. Wilcox is survived by three sons and two daughters in law; Robert and Joy Wilcox, Moravia, Richard and Joan Wilcox, Lyons Falls, James R. Wilcox, Lyons Falls, a daughter and son in law; Dr. Thomas and Pauline Gergel, Oneonta, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one sister Regina Wallace, Lowville, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter, on April 1, 1988, her son John, in October 2003, a daughter and son in law; Mr. & Mrs. Grady (Mary Ann) Morgan, two brothers, Charles and Robert (Maurice) Brown, two sisters; Loretta Rogers and Ruth Britton. Cremation was done at Waterville Cemetery Crematory. A memorial service is being planned for Spring, 2006, in Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Lewis Co. Hospice, Inc. P.O. Box 266 Lowville, NY 13367, Lyons Falls Ambulance Squad, or to a charity of one�(TM)s choice. Arrangements are by Trainor Funeral Home 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
