Obituary of Iva Mae Furman

Kayuta Lake- Iva Mae (Potter) Furman, of Lake Shore Drive, widow of Clifford L., passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021 in the comfort of her home, while under the loving care of her granddaughter Stacy, sister Kathleen, great-granddaughter Zada. Iva was born in Hinckley, NY, on December 10, 1935, a daughter of William and Alice Huges Potter. She grew up in Hinckley, before moving with her family to a farm on the Posey Hill Road, near Holland Patent. Iva attended Holland Patent Central School. On February 24, 1951, Iva was united in marriage with Clifford LeRoy Furman, at the parsonage of the Stittville United Methodist Church. Thereafter the couple resided on Railroad St, Stittville, where they raised their family. In the early 1970’s Mr. Furman constructed a home on Kayuta Lake, Town of Forestport. Iva, Clifford and her family greatly enjoyed this residence as a camp, moving to Kayuta Lake permanently, in 2006. Mr. Furman, a retiree heavy equipment operator at the Town of Marcy, passed away on December 4, 2019. During the 1970’s Mrs., Furman returned to school and earned her GED. Thereafter she furthered her education attending Utica School of Practical Nursing, where she earned her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. For many years afterwards she was employed as an L.P.N. in patient care at Marcy Psychiatric Center, Marcy, retiring as a guard from Central NY Psychiatric Center also at Marcy. Mrs. Furman was a member of Stittville United Methodist Church, the Stittville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, the Snow Country Quilters Club and a member of a garden Club. Iva especially enjoyed making quilts, ceramics, raising and arranging flowers and crocheting. She is survived by one son and daughter in law, Harold (Sharon) Furman, Forestport. She was predeceased by a son, Kenneth LeRoy Furman, on June 13, 2016. Also surviving are grandchildren: Stacy D’ Aquisto (William Almas). Cold Brook, Melissa (Kevin) Bronk, Stittville, and Peter (Sabrina) Moot, III, Clarks Mills; great-grandchildren: Zada D’ Aquisto and Abigail D’Aquisto, Sarah and Rick Jones, Robert Bronk and Peter Moot IV, one great great granddaughter, Jane Caney; four brothers, William Potter, Cold Brook, Harold Potter, Verona, and John Potter, Dolgeville, and George Potter, Marcy, three sisters, Kathlene Kerrigan, Isabell Seelman, Dorothy Seelman, all of Remsen. She was predeceased by brothers Lyle and Fred Potter. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, June 29, at 1:00 pm at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. with interment to follow in Townsend Cemetery, Stittville. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stittville United Methodist Church. Her family would like to extend a note of gratitude to the caregivers of Hospice & Palliative Care of Oneida County.
