On March 1, 1979 Darlene and her husband, Carlton, established Adirondack Colonial Furniture in East Syracuse.   This business was her passion and she ran the day to day operations growing the store into three locations in the Syracuse area, and one location in Utica.  She retired at the age of 62, and her children Jim, Roberta and Lori took over management of the family business.

Darlene enjoyed reading, listening to music, loved outdoor activities, including golfing  gardening and snowmobiling.  Darlene possessed a great talent in interior decorating and design.

Lee (Jason Greico), Mandi (Jason) Croniser, Sara (Keith) Lynch, Jessica Northup, Laura (Justin) Walter, Adam Coe, Yvonne (Craig) Black, CJ Lahah (Victoria Morris),  Michelle Lahah (Matt Costello), and nineteen great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are two sisters, Celia Virkler, Lowville, and Helena (Herb) Clarke, Utica.  She was predeceased by siblings: Leslie D.
