Syracuse – Irmgard Szymanski, 89, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at the Rome Memorial Hospital Residential Healthcare Facility, where she had resided for the past two years. She was born in Germany on March 19, 1931, where she grew up and received her education. Together with her husband Michael Szymanski and their first three children they emigrated to the United States in the early 1950’s and settled in Syracuse, NY. The couple had five more children which she raised in their Syracuse home. For several years Irmgard was employed as a candle maker at the Muench-Kreuzer Candle Co. of Syracuse. Mr. Szymanski predeceased Irmgard in 1980. Irmgard was of the Catholic faith and was a parishioner of the Sacred Heart Parish in Syracuse. She was a friend to all and will be fondly remembered for her cooking, spontaneity, and thrift shopping for herself and everyone else. She very much enjoyed dancing to all types of music all over central NY, and there was nothing wrong with a good flirt every now and then. Irmgard is survived by her daughters: Tammy (Michael) Biro, Boonville, Jane Pieropan, Oswego, Kristine Capria, Syracuse, and Regina Szymanski, Marcellus; her sons: John (Laura), Fulton, Richard and Edward, both of Syracuse, and Walter (Lowella), Parish. She is survived by a special granddaughter and napping buddy Alexandra Lynn, as well as several other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson Paul Capria, Jr. Services will be held privately at the convenience of her family.
