West Leyden - James R. Woodruff, 68, of Deminuk Road, husband of Renee, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Rome Memorial Hospital.
Affectionately known as Woody, he was born on March 14, 1954 in Oneida, the son of Donald and Gladys Combs Woodruff. He grew up in Rome, graduating from Rome Free Academy. On December 11, 1973, James entered the US Air Force serving until his honorable discharge from Kirtland AFB, New Mexico on June 26, 1975.
In 1981 Woody met the love of his life Renee Cooper. The couple was married in Rome, NY on November 21, 1987. James retired as the head custodian for the Rome City School District after several years of service. Woody had a love for all creatures great and small, and together with his wife they enjoyed raising animals of all kinds through the years.
Woody was a loving and kind person, who was fondly loved and will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife Renee, sons: James R., Virginia, Joshua (Amber), Beaver Falls; daughter Patricia (Jeff) Spink, Lyons Falls; grandchildren: Jensen Woodruff, Beaver Falls, Tiffany Spink, Barneveld, Allison Spink, West Leyden, Michael Spink, Rome; one sister Judy (John) Trotz, Rome, also Jennifer Holt, Virginia. He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers Don and Kenneth Woodruff.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, December 13, at 11:00 am at the Boonville Alliance Church, 12593 Potato Hill Road, Boonville, with Rev. David Hedeen, Pastor officiating. Arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
