Poland- Winifred (Winnie) Wilson, 64, a former resident of Fraser Road, Steuben, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, while surrounded by the loving care of her family, at St. Lukes Memorial Hospital, New Hartford. Since February 17, 2014, Winnie was a part of the UCP family and had resided at the Poland IRA. Affectionately known as Winnie, she was born in Rome, on January 28, 1954, a daughter of the late Earl and Catherine Lambdin Wilson. She is survived by three brothers, Roger (MaryAnn), Remsen, Harry (Susan) Wilson, Steuben and Alan (Sandra), Steuben; a sister in law, Darlene Wilson, Steuben. Winnie was predeceased by her brother, Earl Wilson, Jr. Winnie also had a special bond with her sister-in-law, Sue, whom she called Ma. She was a very special sister to Harry. Winnie enjoyed spending time with her peers and staff at the Poland IRA, and enjoyed attending day-hab at Barneveld Day Hab Center, where she enjoyed activities with her peers and staff. Winnie loved her bags, which she called her bops; she enjoyed her sensory items such as balls, stuffed animals and her sunglasses. Winnie possessed her own language, which everyone came to know such as ma=sue bobs=bags, eyes=sunglasses, jailbait=napkins and babies=stuffed animals and she often took inventory of all her possessions. Winnie enjoyed and became excited with the anticipation of the holidays and parties. Winnie enjoyed her coffee and would ask for it often. Winnie enjoyed going on outings to go shopping, visit the Utica Zoo, the mall or for ice cream at The Red Caboose and at Stewarts in Poland. She also enjoyed the outdoors and watching birds with her peers. Her family wishes to thank the staff and care givers for the years of compassionate care which they gave to Winnie, from her second family at the Poland IRA Home and additionally a note of thanks and appreciation for compassionate care is extended by her family to the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Lukes Memorial Hospital. Her Funeral will be Friday at 2:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where calling hours are from 12 Noon until the funeral. Interment will be in Steuben Cemetery. Winnie will be truly missed, loved and always fondly remembered.
