William '"Sonny"' Edwards

Floyd_ William Edwards, Jr. 81, of Streiff Road, who was affectionately known as "Sonny," husband of Anne, passed away at his residence on Monday, January 2, 2012, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Holland Patent, on June 29, 1930, a son of William and Edna Mahoney Edwards. A life resident of the Holland Patent area, Mr. Edwards graduated from Holland Patent High School, with the Class of 1948. While growing up and after he graduated, he was involved in the operation of his father's daily farm, and he rented a farm on Powell Road, near Stittville. On June 5, 1954, William was united in marriage with Sylvia Anne Munn, at Boonville United Methodist Church. In 1956, they purchased the dairy farm on Powell Road, and operated this farm with their children, until 1991, when they sold the farm to their son Bruce, and moved to their present home on Streiff Road. From 1973-1988, Mr. Edwards served on the Holland Patent Board of Education; he was board president for three years. For his service he received a Distinguished Service Award from the Tri-County School Board, Mohawk Valley Superintendants Association in 1988. Sonny was a lifetime member of NRA. He was an avid hunter who especially enjoyed hunting for moose and elk in Montana and Upper Canada. In addition to his wife, Anne, he is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Bruce and Heidi Gates Edwards, Town of Marcy and Richard and Elizabeth Nutting Edwards, Latham. He was predeceased by a daughter Patricia (Pat) Edwards in 1999, and his parents. Also surviving are three grandchildren, William, Raymond and Elena; three sisters and brothers in law, Judy and Barry Bingham, Stittville, Eileen and Calvin Bidwell, Cold Brook, Linda and Edward Krukowski, Ft. Myers, Fla; a brother and sister in law, Gene and Vicky Edwards, Stittville, and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Townsend Cemetery, Stittville. There are no calling hours.
