Boonville: William Shippers, 91, a resident of the Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and formerly of Thorton Ave., passed away on October 12, 2012, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica. Mr. Shippers was born on July 1, 1921, a son of John and Hazel McIntyre Shippers. He grew up in Lyonsdale and attended school in Gouldtown before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in May 1942. William served in the Pacific Theater during WWII, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal in October 1945. Following his military service Mr. Shippers was employed with, and retired from the Plumbers and Fitters Union, Local #112 of Binghamton. William was a charter member of the Tun Tavern Leathernecks Marine Corps League, and was also a member of the Charles J. Love Post American Legion and the Harland J. Hennessey Post of the VFW all of Boonville. Mr. Shippers was also a long time member of the Boonville-Uriel Masonic Lodge #165. Mr. Shippers is survived by his sister, Helen White of Boonville; nieces and nephews, Sonja Skidmore, William White, Sr., Joanne Fahey, and Joseph White, Jr. Also surviving is a special friend Ronald Fruin of Port Leyden. William was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Joseph E. White, and by a nephew Jeff White. Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside service, with military honors, on Tuesday, October 16, at 12:30 P.M. in the Boonville Cemetery, Boonville. A visitation will be held at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St., Boonville from 10:00 AM, until 12:00 Noon on Tuesday.
