Barneveld- William "Bill" Richard Burney, 78, of Barneveld, entered eternal life after succumbing to Alzheimer's disease, surrounded by his family on Monday, October 31, 2016. He was born March 23, 1938, to Walter and Evelyn Burney, in Rutland, Vermont. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Beverly of 52 years, his two sons, Jeff Burney and his wife, Debbie of Sorrento, FL; their children, Malorie, Morgan and Madison; Chad Burney and Lisa Azzarito Burney of Tampa, FL, their son Hunter; his daughter Lisa Reese and her husband, Mark, of Hookstown, PA, their children, Hanna, Hayley, and Andrew; his loving brother, Richard Burney and his wife, Susan; as well as special friends, Dennis Ayers, Debra Brown and Dave Garcia. Bill was also preceded in death by the family's very special friend, Richard (Dick) McLaren. Bill retired from St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, where he worked for about 40 years, and in 1999, was presented the honor of being their "Employee of the Year," an accomplishment he was most proud of. While Bill enjoyed being outdoors, working in his garden, planting flowers, tending to his property and fishing, he absolutely loved spending time at hunting camp in Georgia, with his 2 sons, Jeff and Chad. His family extends a special thank you to the employees at Sunset Nursing Home in Boonville, St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, and Brookdale Senior Living Center, Clinton. While Alzheimer's patients can be difficult to care for, the employees at all 3 facilities listed above made sure Bill kept his dignity. There will be no calling hours; however, a private celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
