May 3, 1985 — December 30, 2018

West Leyden- William J. Underwood, IV, 33, formerly of the Osceola Road, passed away, on Sunday, December 30, 2018, while surrounded by his loving family, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where he had resided since October, 2016. Affectionately known as Will he was born at Griffiss Airforce Base Hospital, Rome, on May 3, 1985, a son of William J. Underwood, III and Sheila Tanner Underwood. Will grew up on the Osceola Road, West Leyden and attended West Leyden Elementary School, graduating from Adirondack Central School, with the Class of 2004. While in high school he greatly enjoyed running on the Cross Country Team. For ten years Will was employed as a dishwasher at Betsy Ross Skilled Nursing Facility, Rome and during that time he lived in Rome. Will possessed a great and uplifting ability to visit and socialize with people. He had a wonderful way of sensing people whose outlook was bleak and through his outgoing ways he lifted their spirits, brightening the days of everyone who was around Will. Will managed to share those traits with others in spite of his own battle with brain cancer and partial blindness since the age of 12. He greatly enjoyed listening to music, walking and riding his bike. Will was a member of All Saints Polish National Catholic Church, Rome. In addition to his parents, William J. III and Sheila, Will is survived by one brother and sister in law, Joseph R. (Emily) Underwood, Holland Patent, and a nephew, Watson; his maternal grandmother, RoseAnna Tanner, Ava and by many special friends, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Robert Tanner, Sr, his paternal grandparents, William and Joyce Underwood, Jr. and his uncle Jon P. Underwood. Wills family wishes to extend a note of sincere thanks and appreciation to the entire staff of Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, especially acknowledging the C-Wing Staff for, the kind and compassionate care which was afforded to Will. Wills Funeral will be Saturday, at 6:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where calling hours will be Saturday from 3-6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Resident Activities Fund, 232 Academy St. Boonville, NY 13309.
