Forestport- William J. Miller, Sr., 90, of Cross Rd, husband of the late Betty, passed away at the home of his son and daughter in law, Bill and Sandy Miller, on Thursday, October 4, 2012. For nearly ten years he had made his home with his daughter and son in law, Bonnie and John Shanks of Forestport. He was born in Utica, on February 11, 1922, a son of Frank and Margaret Prye Miller. William grew up in Utica, where he received his education. Mr. Miller was employed as an auto body repairman at various garages in the Utica area and for many years at the Roundhouse Garage, of Utica, later moving from Chadwicks to the Woodgate area, retiring from employment from the Forestport Town Highway Department. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. On November 6, 1943, William was united in marriage with Elizabeth J. "Betty" Sloma, at Blessed Sacrament Church, Utica. Mrs. Miller died on September 4, 1991. William is survived by one son and daughter in law, William J. "Bill" Miller, Jr., and Sandy, Forestport, and their children, Douglas and Gary Miller, three daughters and two sons in law, Bonnie L. and John Shanks, Forestport, and their children, Cynthia Shanks and Carrie Clover, Barbara A. Sprowell, Hamlin, NY, and her children, Daniel Sprowell and Kristy Osgood and Beverley A. Singson, and Manny, Enola, PA, and their children, Dana and Branndon Singson and twelve great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son in law, Michael Sprowell, in 1995, and by one brother, Leo, and three sisters, Betty Cantor, Lillian Rotundo and Jenny Swalgin. He is also survived by a special friend, Shirley Finster, Port Leyden. A visitation will be Saturday from 10 AM until 12 Noon at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with services to follow at 12:45 PM at Woodgate Cemetery, Rt. 28, Woodgate.
