William J. 'Bill' Snell

August 23, 1950 — February 27, 2022

William J. Snell Holland Patent- William J Snell, 71 passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at Betsy Ross Nursing Home, Rome. For many years, Bill resided in Jacksonville, Florida. A place he loved and where he developed many close friendships. More recently, Bill resided in Holland Patent with his sister and brother-in-law. Bill was born in Utica on August 23, 1950, the son of Joseph A, and Catherine Hughes Snell. He grew up on the family homestead farm, Snelland, on Coates Rd Holland Patent. He has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Holland Patent since 1963. He graduated from Holland Patent Central School with the Class of 1968. He then attended Cornell University in Ithaca, NY where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture graduating with the Class of 1972. After graduating from Cornell, he relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where he was employed for over 30 years for Convergys Communications as a Call Management Systems Administrator. Bill was a huge fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars since they became an NFL expansion team in 1995 and was a season ticket holder. He was also a lifelong New York Yankees fan and rarely missed a game on the TV or radio over the years. Bill survived by two sisters and brothers in law; Patricia(Richard) Aubry, Holland Patent, Laura (Evan) Grenier, Holland Patent; aunts, Mary Alice Hughes, Rome, Nancy Stoker, Cazenovia, Florence Snell, Florida; one nephew, Joshua(Lisa) Clemmons, Rome; four nieces, Sarah(Ryan) Palmer, Kill Devil Hills, NC, Bethany(James) Marconi, Rochester; Jessica(Ryan) Meade, Ballston Spa; Kimberly(David) Dunn, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; great nephews and niece, Benett, Marshall and Grayson Marconi, Madden Meade, Cullen and Ailis Dunn. He was predeceased by his parents. Bill is also survived by many cousins and special friends Tom and Eileen Jordan in Jacksonville, FL. The family would like to thank Bill's roommate Jim White for his help and kind support during Bill's stay at Betsy Ross. A Memorial Service will be at First Presbyterian Church at the convenience of his family. Internment will be later this spring in Holland Patent Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
