William G. Smolinsky

December 9, 1951 — June 10, 2024

Utica- William G. Smolinsky, 72, husband of Gail M., passed away while surrounded by his loving wife and family, on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Wynn Hospital, Utica.


Affectionately known as Bill, he was born in Utica, on December 9, 1951, a son of George and Jean Williams Smolinsky. Bill grew up in Utica and graduated from Whitesboro High School, with the Class of 1971. While in high school, Bill was a member of the Whitesboro Warriors Football Team. Later Bill earned a degree in Aeronautics from Utica School of Aeronautics.


From August 16, 1971, until August 15, 1975, Mr. Smolinsky served his country in the U.S. Air Force, in Vietnam, during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharge with the rank of Sergeant.


On June 20, 2003, Bill was united in marriage with Gail M. Brinkerhoff, at their residence in Deerfield.


After serving his country, Mr. Smolinsky was employed as a civilian, from 1975, until 1995, at Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome, first as an aircraft mechanic and later for several years as a quality control inspector. After the base closed, Bill was employed for Orion Bus Industries, Rome, Fountain Head Group and lastly for Lowes Home Improvement Store, Utica, where he retired from due to disability.


In addition to his wife, Gail, Bill is survived by his children, Aubrey James, Syracuse, Alicia Smith and husband, Danny, Westmoreland, Nichole Hutchins and Husband, Shawn, Boonville, Ashley Smolinsky, Colorado and Megan Brinkerhoff, Utica; grandchildren, Austin Bennett, Isabella Smith, McKenna Smith, Morgan Hutchins and Kaitlyn Hutchins; a great granddaughter, Mia Kenyon; one sister and brother in law, Terri Zygo and Bernie. He was predeceased by a sister Diane Fellone. Also surviving are sister in law, Karen and Kirk Balash; four brothers in law, Phil, Bert, Rich and Eri and their families and several nieces and nephews.


Bill’s wife and family extends a heartfelt note of thanks and appreciation to the Wynn Hospital, East Wing I.C.U. Staff and also to Jean on 8th Floor East.


Services will be Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 3:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where calling hours are also Wednesday from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral. Members of Charles J. Love Post American Legion Post 406, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. and The Tun Tavern Marine Corps League will meet at the funeral home to begin Bill’s services at 3:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to Upstate Cerebral Palsy, 1020 Mary St. Utica, NY 13501; please specify your contribution is to be for the benefit of the Larchmont UCP Facility, of Utica.


Following his services, all are invited to attend a further celebration of his life, at the Boonville Elks Lodge, State Rt. 12, south of Boonville.
