Ava- William E. Ingersoll, 67, of Krupp Road, husband of Janette, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015, at Rome Memorial Hospital, after a long illness. He was born in Norwich, NY, on July 27, 1948, a son of Thomas D. and Eleanor Knowlton Ingersoll, Sr, growing up in Hartwick, NY, and in Poland, NY, where he graduated from high school, with the Class of 1966. Thereafter he was employed as a plumber's apprentice. On March 4, 1968, Mr. Ingersoll enlisted in the U.S. Army; in April, 1968, he reenlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served his country during a 20 year Airforce career, until his honorable discharge on June 30, 1988. While in the Air Force, he attended college earning an Associate's Degree in Aero Technology. During his military career, Airman Ingersoll was stationed at various Air Force bases until 1972-1974, when he was stationed in Viet Nam, serving as an aircraft mechanic on the aircraft supply line, during the Vietnam War. Afterwards, Airman Ingersoll continued his service as an aircraft mechanic at Dover DE Air Force Base, Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome, Keflavik Air Force Base, Iceland, before returning to Griffiss Air Force Base, where he was discharged with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. From 1989-92, Mr. Ingersoll was employed in the country of Saudi Arabia, as an aircraft mechanic for Al Salam Aircraft Co. Ltd. During that time he was employed as a civilian on the air craft supply line which was participating in the Persian Gulf Operation Desert Storm War. In 1992, he and his family settled at his present home in the Town of Ava, and for several years he was employed as a truck driver for his brother, Tom, at Ingersoll Rollback Trucking Co. of Poland. On November 9, 1974, Mr. Ingersoll was united in marriage with Janette A. Valencourt, at Griffiss Airforce Base Chapel in Rome. He greatly enjoyed being a hobby farmer, raising chickens, and keeping honey bees. He also enjoyed fishing, especially teaching his grandchildren how to fish. In addition to his wife, Janette, Bill is survived by one daughter, Heather Ingersoll, Ava; two grandsons, Branson S. Platt and Bret M. Platt; three brothers, Thomas D. Jr. Cape Vincent, NY, James (Dawn), Herkimer, Brian (Mary), Poland; one sister, Kay DeGarmo, Fayetteville, NC. He was predeceased by a sisters Patricia Lotoski and Sue Meagley.
