Boonville- Wilbur Eugene Smith, 90, affectionately known as Butch or Smitty, husband of the late Joan, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022, at Betsy Ross Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Rome, NY.
Butch was born in Buckingham Township, Bucks Co. Pennsylvania, on March 14, 1932. The youngest of seven, he attended school in Doylestown, PA, up to the 8th grade. At age 14, he began to work at Smith’s Mobil, an auto repair business in New Britain, PA, which he eventually owned and operated until his retirement in 1991.
He married Joan Ann Solt, of Doylestown, PA, in 1949. Butch and Joan were together for 71 years until death did they part at her passing on January 3, 2021.
After retirement they relocated to Boonville, NY, where their son and daughter-in- law lived. He enjoyed snowmobiling, boating and sports. Butch loved the Phillies and the Eagles and was loyal to them until his death.
Butch was a member of Abundant Life Fellowship Church in Boonville, NY.
He is survived by two sons, Robert E. Smith (Missy), of Quatkertown, PA and William A. Smith (Pamela), Boonville, NY; three grandsons, Brian (Hulda) Matthew (Krissy) and Isaiah (Erin) and six great grandchildren.
His family extends their sincere and heartfelt thanks to Dad’s roommate, Ron, at Betsy Ross Rehabilitation Center for his devotion to the welfare of Butch, with his laughter and concern. Ron made Dad smile every day.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for both Wilbur and his wife, Joan, at Abundant Life Fellowship Church, on State Rt. 12, south of Boonville, at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 5, 2022. Interment will be private in Alder Creek Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rehab Unit at Betsy Ross Rehabilitation Center, 1 Elsie St. Rome, NY 13440.
