August 30, 1963 — April 9, 2020

Forestport - Wayne B. Schmelzle, 56, of Elm St., husband of Lorrie, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Thursday, April 9, 2020. Wayne was born in Utica, on August 30, 1963, a son of Harold L. and Sylvia Pfendler Schmelzle. Through the years Wayne worked in the kitchens of several area bars and restaurants. Most recently he worked in the laundry department of St. Luke's Hospital, New Hartford. On July 10, 2018 Wayne was united in marriage with Lorrie Owens Smith in Glenfield. A life resident of Forestport, Wayne was a longtime member of the Forestport Fire Fighters, a member of the Forestport Presbyterian Church, and looked forward to and participated in the Forestport Old Home Days every year. He loved to entertain at his home overlooking the Forestport Falls, and would hold several summer gatherings and BBQ's. Wayne enjoyed hunting and fishing, and found great joy in riding and working on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Time spent with his family and friends was very important to Wayne. He is survived by his wife Lorrie, Forestport, his children: Kristin (Todd) Cornacchia, Justin (Gabby) Smith and Aaron (Tania) Smith, Sr.; 11 grandchildren: Dante, Noah, James, Charity, Amelia, Nissa, Rylan, Wyatt, Aaron Jr., Bentley and Viviana, one great-granddaughter: Elena Paige; his father and step-mother Harold "Smokey" and Kathy Schmelzle, mother-in-law: Janet Owens, sister Kimberly Thorne, niece Shelby and great nephew and great niece: Braydon and Abrielle. He was predeceased by his mother Sylvia Schmelzle and father-in-law Aubrey Owens. Funeral Services will be announced at a later date. Interment will be in Sauquoit Valley Cemetery. His arrangements are in care of the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Memorial Contributions may be made to Forestport Fire Fighters, Inc. 11965 River Road, Forestport, NY 13338.
