Port Leyden - Wayne F. Hastwell, 55, of State Route 12, passed away suddenly at his residence on Friday, May 21, 2010. A native and lifelong resident of Port Leyden, he was born on September 9, 1954, a son of John C. and Geraldine (Shaver) Hastwell. He graduated from South Lewis High School in Turin with the Class of 1972. Wayne entered the U.S. Army in 1972, serving until his honorable discharge in 1975 from Ft. Hood, TX at the rank of SP4. He was employed as a sawyer at Ethan Allen Furniture Co., Boonville following his discharge, and later worked at Revere Copper & Brass Co. of Rome, and as a tractor-trailer driver for SMX Co. of Watertown. For the past several years, he operated his own firewood cutting and equipment sales and service business at his residence. On June 28, 1975, he was married to Kathy J. Tieman at St. Johnï¿(TM)s Methodist Church in Baytown, TX. The couple was later divorced. Many years ago he played the drums for the Mill Creek Boys Band, and he enjoyed puttering around at home. Wayne is survived by three daughters, twins Lindsey and Ashley, at home, and Tracy Millard and her husband, Jerry of Constableville; a son, Jeremy Hastwell and his fiance, Courtney Baslow of Port Leyden; his mother, Geraldine Hastwell of Port Leyden; three grandchildren, Michayla, Cory and Olivia; two brothers, John Hastwell and his wife, Diann of Boonville, and Bill Hastwell of CA; two sisters and brother-in-laws, Dolores and Richard Hart of Walworth, NY, and Mary and Jim Moeller of Syracuse. He was predeceased by his father, John, Sr. in 1972, a brother, Jim Hastwell in 2001, and a nephew, Michael Wood, Jr. in 1990. His funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, with interment in Port Leyden Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
