Turin - Ward G. Tarasek, 58, of State Route 26, passed away after a short illness on Sunday, July 26, 2009, at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. Mr. Tarasek was born in Lowville on January 3, 1951, to Raymond and Charlotte Loucks Tarasek. He grew up in Glenfield and graduated from South Lewis Senior High School in 1969 and SUNY Oswego. Ward taught industrial arts at Carthage Central High School prior to working as a sales representative in the Boonville/Lowville area for Snap-On Tool Company, then as a machinist for Black Clawson of Gouverneur. He was currently employed as a technician and supervisor in milk testing for Dairy One Cooperative, Inc. of Ithaca. Ward enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Moose River Fish & Game Club and the Canastota Conservation Club. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association, and was skilled at trap and benchrest shooting. Mr. Tarasek is survived by his companion of 19 years, Amy Mehl of Baldwinsville; a stepson, Brandon Mehl and his wife, Erica, and daughter, Isabella Charlotte Mehl of Turin; one stepdaughter, Faron Mehl of Forestport; a sister, Constance Tarasek of Parkers Prairie, MN; several cousins and many friends. In keeping with his wishes there will be no calling hours or services. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. His arrangements are entrusted to Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, NY.
