Boonville- Walter William Kowalik, 75, of State Rt. 46, a native and life resident of Boonville and husband of Kathryn, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2018, at St. Lukes Memorial Hospital, New Hartford, where he was surrounded by the loving care of his wife and daughter. Affectionately known as Bill he was born in Boonville, on August 3, 1943, a son of Walter W. Bill and Margaret Hill Kowalik, and grew up on Erwin St., where he spent most of his life. Bill graduated from Boonville Central School, with the Class of 1962 and furthered his education at MVCC, Utica. Thereafter for many years until his retirement in 2008, Mr. Kowalik was employed as a draftsman at Revere Copper & Brass Co. of Rome. On August 10, 1968, Bill was married to Sandra Smith at St. Josephs Church, Boonville. Later the couple was divorced. He was a member of St. Josephs Church, Boonville and a longtime member of the Boonville Fire Department. Bill greatly enjoyed various home projects. During his high school years, Bill participated in the Boonville Central School Concert Band; in 1970, he and Mr. Martin Ischia founded the Adirondack Central School Wild Cat Marching Band. Bill possessed a life interest in drum and bugle corps and he had participated in many area drum and bugle corps as drummer and also arranger and drum instructor, including; The Prospect Crusaders, Frankfort Starlighters, Syracuse Brigadeers, Utica Yankee Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, Stanwix Heights Ridge Runners Drum and Bugle Corps, Adirondack Central School, Boonville, Drum and Bugle Corps, Syracuse Brigadiers Alumni, Utica Yankee Cadets and the Floyd Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps. At the present time, Bill was the leader of the Black River Drummers and Twirlers, of Boonville. In addition to his wife, Kathryn Arslen, whom Bill married on June 30, 2012, in Thendara, Bill is survived by his children, Kimberly (Mark) Kovach, Brantingham, Amy Kowalik and her significant other, Lansing McKee, Rebecca Kowalik, all of Boonville, Ashlee (Nick) Reppard, Cicero; step children, Kenneth Arslen, Palmer, MA, Melissa Mattei, East Brookfield, MA, Elizabeth Arslen, Milbury MA; grandchildren, Alexander Pfendler, Tyler Kovach, Dakota Kline, Brent Kline, Lansing McKee, IV, Madison McKee, Bailey Gleasman, Brady Gleasman, Reese Reppard, Jacob Cardinal, Ryan Nolan, Savannah Mattei and Gianna Mattei; great grandchildren, Tanner, Madox and Brayden; Bills siblings, Jerusha (Rob) Andrews, Boonville, Betsy Mercer, Boonville, Diane Conley, Boonville, Peggy Maurer, West Leyden, Kit (Wayne) Kwasniewski, West Leyden. He was predeceased by two brothers in law, Thomas Maurer and Robert Mercer. Also surviving are aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and Kathys extended family. Bill is also survived by his beloved Fur Babies, Angie and Grace. His Funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Rev. Thomas Ward, pastor of Christ Our Hope Catholic Parish of Boonville, will officiate. A private interment will be in St. Josephs Cemetery, Boonville. Calling hours are Saturday from the conclusion of the services until 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
