Forestport - Walter Thomas Scott, Sr., 68, of Gulf Brook Drive, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford. A native of Rome, he was born on November 20, 1941, a son of Walter P. and Jennie (Bove) Scott. Walt grew up in Rome and graduated from Rome Free Academy with the Class of 1959. He entered the U.S. Coast Guard and served his country until being honorably discharged in 1962. For over thirty-five years Mr. Scott was employed at the former Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome as Superintendent of the Maintenance Department, retiring in 1993. He moved to his present residence at Kayuta Lake several years ago. On October 9, 1965, Walt was married to Bette Jenkins at the Forestport Presbyterian Church. They were later divorced. Walt was a member of Charles J. Love Post #406, American Legion, Boonville, and the Boonville Elks Lodge #2158. He was an avid outdoorsman and NASCAR fan. He enjoyed hunting, boating on Kayuta Lake, and bowling. He is survived by three sons, Walter Scott, Jr. and wife, Dee of Old Forge, Charles Scott of Forestport, and Bob Raymond and his wife Theresa of Camden; two daughters, Julie Hunkins and her husband, Rick of Old Forge, and Carolyn Knight of Rome; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Scott and his significant other, Cynthia Johnson of Forestport; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also surviving is his companion, Kathleen Teeps of Forestport. He was predeceased by a grandson, Tyler Raymond in 1993. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, where members of the Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. and the Tun Tavern Leatherneck Marine Corps League will meet in a group for military rites at 7:00 p.m. Members of Boonville Lodge, BPOE #2158 will have a service at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be private in Rome Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Forestport Firefighters or the Prospect Fire Co. Ambulance Fund.
