Wallace Frederick Low

Boonville- Wallace F. Low, 99, a longtime resident of Erwin St., and husband of the late Eileen E., passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.


Affectionately known as Wally, he was born in Utica, NY, on September 9, 1924, a son of Howard G. and Gertrude Freas Low and graduated from Utica Free Academy, with the Class of 1942. Thereafter, began his studies in mechanical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of Troy, NY. Wally took time off from his studies to serve his country in the US Army, in communications, in the Pacific Theater of WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and resuming his studies he graduated from R.P.I., with the Class of 1948, earning a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering.


On November 27, 1948, Wallace was united in marriage with Eileen E. Savage, at the First Presbyterian Church of Pleasantville, NY.


For nearly fifteen years, Wally was employed as a mechanical engineer, in the copper rolling mill of Revere Copper & Brass Co. of Rome, NY. In 1963 he and his family moved to Boonville, settling on Erwin Street, where he has since lived. Wallace enjoyed the out of doors and during the 1960’s he realized his proudest achievement, in founding, designing and constructing Christmas Tree Park Campground, near Forestport, which he operated for many years.


Wally was a long time active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Boonville, and the Adirondack Community Chorus. He also served on the Erwin Library Board and was a volunteer at the Boonville Oneida Co. Fair.


He is survived by his three daughters; Christine (Robert) Meagher, Janet (William) Rigby and Victoria Low; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Eileen, on February 25, 2003 and by a daughter, Linda Mae Low.


In keeping with his wishes, a private graveside service will be held in Sauquoit Valley Cemetery, Sauquoit, NY. There are no calling hours. Wally was proud of the town of Boonville and the caring community support that our town provided. To continue that support, any memorial contributions may be made to the Erwin Library & Institute, 104 Schuyler St. Boonville, NY 13309. His funeral arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville, NY.
