Woodgate- Viola H. Walker, age 104, formerly of State Rt.28, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where she had resided since June, 2006. She was born in Syracuse, on July 7, 1909, a daughter of Fred and Louise Schaefer Reichert. Viola grew up in Syracuse, where she received her education and was employed as a stenographer for Bell Telephone Co. On October 15, 1932, Viola was united in marriage with Ralph L. Walker at a Lutheran Church in Syracuse. After their marriage the couple moved to Boonville, where they settled at the Walker homestead farm, on the Walker Road, near Boonville. In 1945, they moved to the former Covey farm on Moose River Road. In 1955, the Walkers moved to Sarasota FL, where Viola was employed as a sales clerk in a clothing store and at Woolworth's Department Store in the pet department. While in Florida, she also raised orchids. In 1987, the couple moved to Crossville, TN and Mr. Walker died on October 14, 1988. In the early 1990's, Mrs. Walker moved to Woodgate, where she had made her home with her daughter, Alice Smith, until moving to the nursing home. Mrs. Walker had attended Methodist Churches and she enjoyed line dancing, knitting, playing cards, especially pinochle. She will be fondly remembered as a very caring and loving mother, who greatly enjoyed spending time with her family. Viola is survived by two sons and daughters in law, David J. and Nancy Walker, Lake Tansi, TN, Richard A. and Susan Walker, Merced, CA; one daughter, Alice A. Smith, Woodgate, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Ralph U. Walker, in 2011, and by a half brother, George E. Meyers. A graveside service will be held in the summer of 2014, at a time to be announced at Woodgate Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
