Lee Center- Victor A. Leffingwell, 74, of State Rt. 26, passed away at his residence on Monday, January 20, 2020, while surrounded by the loving care of his family and hospice. Victor was born in Boonville, on October 16, 1945, a son of Victor Clarence and Dorothy Healt Leffingwell. Victor attended Boonville Central School and completed his education while he served in the U.S. Navy. From September, 1964, until his honorable discharge, in September, 1968, Mr. Leffingwell served his country in the US Navy. For several months during his Navy service, he was stationed in Viet Nam, during the Viet Nam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Viet Nam Service Medal. From September, 1968, until his honorable discharge in 1970, he served in the U.S. Navy Reserves. Most of his life was lived in Boonville. He was self-employed in the home roofing business in the North Country; later he was employed at Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome, as a steam plant boiler technician and he also worked on road construction. In 1996, Victor relocated to South Carolina, where he was employed as Plant Manager at Scana Prime South, a co-generation plant in Columbia, South Carolina. DeDe was an avid bowler on several leagues in Boonville and an avid golfer on leagues at Woodgate Pines Golf course, Boonville. He was a member of Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W., Charles J. Love Post American Legion # 406, Boonville and a member of the Boonville Lodge of Elks, # 2158. While living in Columbia, SC, he was a member of the V.F.W, American Legion and Elks. He is survived by a son, Scott Leffingwell, Boonville; three step daughters, Kimberly (John) Strobel, Lee Center, Kathleen (Raymond) Bancroft, Copenhagen, NY and Krystal (Stanley) Baynard, Delaware; five grandchildren, David Strobel, Lee Center, with whom he had a very close relationship with and David considered Victor to be a father figure, John Strobel, III, Lee Center, Cody(Elizabeth) Strobel, Lee Center, Dylan (Amber) Bancroft, Copenhagen and Kendall Victoria Lee Chivington, Delaware and a great grandson, Riley Bancroft; two brothers, David Leffingwell, Boonville, Philip (Karen) Leffingwell, Boonville and two sisters, Janet Northrop and Mary Ellen. He was predeceased by his parents. Victor's family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Hospice and Palliative Care and especially to nurses, Cindy, Melissa, Jan, Beverly and Matthew, for the kind and compassionate care which they gave to Victor. In keepings with Victor's wishes there will be no calling hours. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held in the spring, at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville.
