~~Remsen- Thomas O. Becker, Sr. 79, of Thomas Road, husband of Dorothy, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown. Affectionately known as Tom, he was born in Staten Island, (New York City) on March 3, 1938, a son of Frederick W. and Ethel L. Kunath Becker, Sr. Tom grew up in Staten Island where he received his education, before moving to Deposit and then Guilford, NY, where he operated a farm for his father. In 1958, Tom was united in marriage with Nancy Carol Smith; in 1971 the couple relocated to Thomas Road near Remsen, where he had since lived. Mrs. Becker passed away on May 5, 1975. On June 25, 1976, Tom was united in marriage with Dorothy Carbano at the Barneveld United Methodist Church. Tom was first employed as a diesel mechanic for International Truck Co., Utica. For thirty four years until retiring in 2005, Mr. Becker was employed as a Beer Line Engineer at F.X. Matt Brewing Co. of Utica. Tom enjoyed a farming background; for many years he, Dorothy and his children operated a hobby farm at their residence. He also greatly enjoyed his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and going camping and fishing with his family in the Adirondack Mountains and on the St. Lawrence River. He also enjoyed hunting. Tom was predeceased by his son, Thomas O. Becker, Jr., on June 23, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Julie (Nellenbach) Becker, Floyd. In addition to his wife Dorothy, Tom is survived by his children; Bruce T. (Jill) Becker, Orchard Park, NY, Jeffrey B. (Katrina) Becker, Remsen, Lori (Douglas) Wyman, Waterlook SC, Heather (Robert) Tersip-Doolen, Remsen, Jennifer Tersip, Barneveld and Christopher B. (Susan) Becker, Remsen, also surviving are 16 grandchildren; Jessica Daley, Rochelle Daniels, Elizabeth Davies, Ian Becker, Seth Becker, Jeffrey Becker, Jr, Sarah Becker, Thomas Becker, III, Peter Broadbent, Courtney Broadbent, Eric Doolen, Jacob Doolen, Kayla Tersip, Benjamin Becker, Andrew Becker, Anna Becker and 11 great grandchildren; his siblings, Fredrick Becker, Brooklyn; sister, Shirley Palmer, Munsville, NY, Clifford (Elaine) Becker, Norwich, NY, Laura Freedman, Masonville, NY; also surviving is a sister in law, Kathy Becker, Guilford, NY. He was predeceased by a sister, Janet Woods, a brother, Oldwin Becker and sisters in law, Barbara and Mary; brothers in law, Burt Palmer, Charles Woods and Robert Freedman. Also surviving are special friends, John and Chris Ferro, Jerry Folk, Nadine Thomas, Dave Suprenant, Sr, and Mark Demeris. For the past few years, Tom enjoyed attending the Dorothy Smith Center for Advocacy in Utica, NY; his family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff and drivers at the center for the compassionate care which they extended to Tom. His Funeral will be Saturday at 5:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where visitation hours will be from 2-5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to R.C.I.L.
