Oriskany - Thomas G. Weiler, 83, a former resident of Cider St., passed away on Friday, October 10, 2008, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica, after a long illness. A native of Fish Creek, Lewis County, he was born on April 16, 1925, a son of George and Pearl M. Kaido Weiler. He grew up on his parent's farm in Fish Creek, and received his education at West Leyden Central School. Mr. Weiler served in the U.S. Army European Theater from 1945-1948 during the U.S. occupation of Germany at the end of WWII. He was honorably discharged on December 28, 1948 at the rank of Private First Class. After leaving military service he worked on farms in the Deansboro, Sangerfield, and Clinton areas. Following 15 years of employment at the Wester farm in Clinton, he went to work for Special Metals Company in New Hartford, eventually retiring from the Shipping and Receiving Department. Mr. Weiler was united in marriage with Luise A. Pickl on November 1, 1948, at Community Chapel, New Isenburg, Germany. Mrs. Weiler died on February 12, 1986. On October 17, 1987, he married Elizabeth Williams Kitchen. He was a member of St. Peter's & St. Paul's Catholic Church, Fish Creek. Mr. Weiler is survived by two sons, James G. Weiler and his wife, Nedra, of Lee Center, and Jack B. Weiler of Clinton; a son-in-law, Robert Burns; and two grandchildren, Misty and Mark. A daughter, Mary Luise Burns predeceased him. Also surviving are five brothers, George Weiler of West Leyden, Theodore Weiler of Fish Creek, Clayton Weiler of Constableville, Robert Weiler of Locust Grove, and Norbert Weiler of Boonville; two sisters, Adaline Croniser of West Leyden, and Pearl Waldron of Greig. He was predeceased by three brothers, Ambrose Weiler, Alvin Weiler, Sr., and Leslie Weiler; and one sister, Louella Brinkerhoff. His Funeral will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, and at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, West Leyden, where Rev. Lawrence Marullo, pastor, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. Peter - St. Paul Cemetery, Fish Creek, where members of Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W., and Tun Tavern Marine Corps League, all of Boonville, will provide military rites. Calling hours are Monday, 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
