Theresa M. Gennaro

Otter Lake – Boonville- Theresa M. Gennaro, 91, of Schuyler St. Boonville and a former longtime resident of Otter Lake, passed away, after a short illness, on Friday, January 3, 2025, while under the care of her loving family and Hospice, at the Abraham House of Rome.

 Theresa was born on July 8, 1933, in Rockaway Beach, Queens, a daughter to James and Mary Diresta Laurita. She graduated from Far Rockaway High School. On January 12, 1957, Theresa was united with marriage with Joseph P. Gennaro, at St. Rose of Lima Church, Rockaway Beach. Following the couple lived in Elmont and Oceanside, Long Island. In 1969, the couple purchased a camp in Otter Lake and became seasonal residents in Otter Lake for many years. Mr. Gennaro, a retiree of Long Island Lighting Company, passed away in December, 2000. In March, 2023, Mrs. Gennaro moved to her present home in Boonville. 

 Mrs. Gennaro was a member of St. Mary of the Snow’s Church, Otter Lake. Theresa was an accomplished baker who always aspired to own a bakery. Instead, she added much joy to many friends in the Otter Lake area with her wonderful baked creations. 

 She is survived by one daughter and son in law, Denise and Glen Doughten, Boonville and Otter Lake; two grandsons, Matthew Doughten and his wife, Beth, James Doughten and a great grandson, Blake Doughten. 

 Her family expressed their heart felt thanks and appreciation to the staff at the Abraham House of Rome, for the kind and loving care which they extended to Theresa. 

 A Memorial Mass will be held in the summer of 2025, at St. Mary of the Snow’s Church, Otter Lake, at a date and time to be announced. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to The Abraham House of Rome.
