Theodore R. Koenig

Holland Patent- Theodore R. Ted Koenig, 83, of State Rt. 365, husband of Marlene and retired co-owner of Koenig Bros. Saw Mill, passed away suddenly at his residence on Tuesday, August 28, 2018. Ted was born in Hinckley, on February 21, 1935, a son of Otto and Ernestine Worden Koenig. He grew up on Light Road, in the hamlet of Wheelertown, later moving to the hamlet of Atwell, at North Lake, where his father was caretaker at the State House and manager of the Black River dam and water power plant at North Lake. Ted graduated from Forestport High School, with the Class of 1952 and thereafter for several years he was employed as a caretaker for Adirondack League Club, Honendaga Lake and also as a caretaker during the summers for Mrs. Evans at Little Moose Lake. In 1964, Ted joined in a partnership with his brother, Bruce, in the founding and operation of Koenig Brothers Logging and Saw Mill Co. of North Lake Road, Forestport. The Koenig brothers operated this logging and saw mill business for forty years and were loggers in the Town of Ohio, for J.P Lewis Paper Co. of Beaver Falls and also manufactured lumber from Adirondack forests for Ethan Allen Furniture Co. and Harden Furniture Co., as well as cutting lumber and firewood, for private concerns. In 1998, Ted retired and his son, Eric assumed operation of the logging business. On December 31, 1974, Ted was united in marriage with Marlene Fox, at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Syracuse. Thereafter the couple settled at their present home in Holland Patent. Ted was a loving husband to Marlene and he treated her like gold. Ted was loved by his family and was known throughout the community and North Country as a good, honest, fair, hardworking man. He passed his values on to his son, Eric. He was a loving, active grandfather, who never turned down a chance to be with his grandkids. He loved going up to North Lake where he greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing and sitting on the deck, overlooking the lake. Ted always enjoyed an errand to pick up that much needed part for Erics logging machines. He loved to play cards and his garden was the envy of everyone. Ted felt a great affection for his brother Bruce and he always looked forward to his daily chats with Bruce on the phone. In addition to his wife, Marlene, Ted is survived by one son, Eric Koenig and his finance, Heather Woodward, Barneveld; two daughters, Lori (Bob) Zaleski, Camillus; Sherry (Ray) Wiszniewski, Cato; grandchildren, Trevor, Maggie, Shana, Doug, Ryan, Katie and Ivan; two great grandchildren, Anthony and Jona; one brother and sister in law, Bruce (Mary) Koenig, North Lake. Ted is also survived by his loving Border Collie, Maxwell, who was always by his side. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 1, at Holland Patent Cemetery, Holland Patent. There are no calling hours.
