Theodore Joseph "Tj" Chrystie

March 21, 1990 — July 16, 2024

Greig- Theodore Joseph Chrystie, 34, of Brantingham Road, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Wynn Hospital, where he was surrounded by the love of his wife, Courtney and his family.


Affectionately known as “TJ” he was born in Utica, on March 21, 1990, a son of Donald J. and Rowena L. Sango Chrystie. TJ grew up in Utica and graduated from Proctor High School, with the Class of 2008. While in high school, TJ excelled at playing football and baseball. Thereafter he furthered his education at MVCC, Utica, in general studies.


He was first employed for several years for Lupini Construction Co. of Trenton, NY, as a mason and he spent one summer restoring the masonry work at Bolt Castle, on the St. Lawrence River, Alexandria Bay, NY. Later, TJ was employed as a Class A Licensed driver and operator of heavy equipment for IBEW # 1249, Syracuse, NY. At the present time TJ was working on the reconstruction of the Power Authority State of NY power lines between Croghan and Marcy, NY.


On December 31, 2020, TJ was united in marriage with Courtney M. Schoff, in Boonville, NY. After their marriage the couple resided on the West Road, Constableville, before moving to their present home near Brantingham.


TJ was a member of IBEW # 1249, Syracuse, NY. He was a board member of the Boonville Little League Baseball and he also served as a coach for the South Lewis Youth Softball teams. At the age of eighteen, TJ joined the MVUBA - Mohawk Valley Baseball Umpire Association and served as an Umpire for Section 3 high school baseball games. During the summer of 2020, TJ restored the Port Leyden Community Baseball field, where he also hosted many softball games.


After completing high school, TJ became an avid softball player and excelled at playing the position of shortstop. He was well known for his excellent softball participation throughout the eastern seaboard of the United States and played in games and tournaments in regions around the east coast, extending to the state of Ohio. Locally, TJ participated on Rookies Softball Team playing at the Forestport Ball Field and at many other locations in New York state.


His children were his world, however, his love for his daughter, Izabel was unconditional. She was his constant shadow and his little Lulu bean. Together they shared a passion for Ohio State Football and spent many Saturday’s cheering them on.


TJ is survived by his wife. Courtney Chrystie; children, Izabel and Caysen; his parents, Donald and Rowena, Utica; a sister and her fiancé, Nicole Chrystie and Jeff Miga and a neice, Paisley Miga, of Winter Springs, FL; his in laws, Renita Schaffner and Eric Sampson, Boonville; brother in law, Timothy Schoff (Gina) Lyons Falls; Lindsey Schoff (Matt) Constableville, maternal grandmother in law, Matilda Schaffner, (Bruce) Port Leyden, and lifelong special friends, Matthew George and Michael Rixford.


He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Theodore and Maria H. Chrystie; maternal grandparents, Joseph and Marie Sango, and Gerald Schaffner, grandfather in law.

Calling hours will be Sunday, July 21, from 12 Noon until 4:00 P.M., at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where a service will begin at 4:00 P.M. Following the services, all are invited to attend a further celebration of TJ’s life, at the Boonville Elks Lodge, State Rt. 12, Boonville, beginning at 5:00 P.M, where donations of food may be dropped off on Sunday, from 11:00 A.M. on.


His family is asking, in lieu of flowers, please consider a monetary contribution for his daughter, Izabel’s future education. Contributions may be left at the funeral home, sent by mail to 2387 Geiskopf Road, Boonville, NY 13309, in care of Izabel Chrystie.


The last gift TJ was able to give, was the donation of his organs, so that many others may have the gift of life.
