Remsen- Terry L. Hoffman, 71, a longtime resident of Old State Road, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where he had resided since April, 2024.
He was born in Utica, on May 21, 1953, a son of Raymond and Marilyn Jones Hoffman. He grew up on Old State Road and received his education at Holland Patent Central School. Thereafter, for many years he was employed on the Paddock Family Dairy Farm, near Remsen.
In 1978, Terry joined the Remsen Volunteer Fire Company; this year marked his 46th year of service to the department. Mr. Hoffman was very proud of the Remsen Fire Department and being able to serve with the department, until recently. Over the years he mowed the lawn of the firehouse and did other custodial work as well as selling raffle tickets for department benefits. Over the years, Terry became an icon by participating in department parades. For most years he had near perfect parade attendance and earned a perfect attendance award for parades in 1982.
Terry was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Marilyn (Jones) Hoffman and by a sister, Dawn E. Hoffman.
He is survived by a brother Steven Hoffman and his wife, Patricia; a sister Sherry Evans and Richard Corr; nieces and nephews, Melissa Evans, Andrew and Nichole Hoffman, Jill Evans, Ashley and Michael Cardello; grand nephews, Easton Doyle, Peyton and Kurtis Hoffman, Hunter and Jack Cardello.
The manner in which Terry touched so many lives was summed up so well, on a face book, by a niece, Jill: “Well, Terry you were supposed to outlive them all, but God had other plans for you. Remsen sure was lucky to have such a great guy as part of their community. You had a kind heart, and infections laugh, and were always a friends to everyone. Everyone knew your friendly face in Remsen. You told some great stories. You never said a bad thing about anyone. You were grandpa’s best worker in the woods and also the best ticket seller for the fire department. I’m sure there is an unlimited supply of hamburgers up there for you. The sky is rumblin, so we all know what that means; already fighting with Dawn. Rest easy Terry. You’re in good hands now with the rest of them. Love you, we already miss you.”
Terry’s Funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with interment to follow in Fairchild Cemetery, Remsen. Calling hours are Thursday, 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Remsen Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 299, Remsen, NY 13438.
