Stuart George Riegler

Lee Center- Stuart G. Riegler, 91, formerly of Brookside Drive, husband of Susan, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2011, at Rome Memorial Hospital. Before entering the hospital he had resided at the Eastern Star Home of Oriskany. Stuart was born in the Town of Annsville, on June 9, 1920, a son of George L. and Dora Wood Riegler. While growing up, he attended the Taberg Rural School. Stuart lived a very lively and colorful life. He was a logger at the young age of 16. During WWII, he was employed at the Rome Air Depot; in the 1940's he was the first bus mechanic for the West Leyden School System. For many years he belonged to Local International Union of Operating Engineers # 545, Syracuse, NY as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator in major road construction in central New York. Stuart was united in marriage with Susan Gallo, on May 2, 1940, at the Lee Center Methodist Church. After that the couple lived in Swancotts Mill. Later the couple lived in Florida for many winters. Mrs. Riegler, retired owner and operator of the Delta Restaurant, died on April 27, 2002. He was a member of Point Rock United Methodist Church. Stuart loved and owned many horses and cars. He truly loved life. Mr. Riegler is survived by three daughters, Maxine and her husband, David Teuscher, Rome, Kimberly and her husband, David Weiler, West Leyden, Kristine and her husband, Andy LaPorte, Lee Center; one son, Claude Riegler and his wife, Shirley, West Leyden; eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Pilney, Boonville. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward "Junior" Riegler; and sisters, Gladys Yorker, Bessie Metot, and Bernice Pacelli. The family wishes to extend a special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Kesava Potturi, Eastern Star Nursing Home and Rome Memorial Hospital. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. at Point Rock United Methodist Church, where Rev. Deborah Wollaber will officiate. Interment will be private in Point Rock Cemetery. Visitation hours are Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eastern Star Home, Oriskany, NY.
