Prospect- Stephen Slade Brown, died suddenly and peacefully at home on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at the age of 66.
He was born in Utica, on June 14th, 1957, a son of James Van Du Zee and Irma Betty (Shoemaker) Brown. Most of his life he lived and thrived in the Town of Trenton, NY living at his family home. Stephen graduated from Holland Patent Central School, being in the Class of 1975. While in high school, Stephen attended BOCES, where he majored in welding.
From 1977-1980 Stephen served his country in the U.S. Navy, on the Atlantic Fleet, and was stationed for a time in Bahrain. He was honorably discharged with rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class and then continued his service in the Navy Reserves, until his honorable discharge on October 25, 1983.
After serving his country, Stephen began his employment for twenty years, as a fabricator and welder at Jet Sew Sewing Machine Company of Barneveld.
On June 6, 1992, Stephen was united in marriage with Christyne M. Hough at the Herkimer United Methodist Church.
Stephen’s Christian faith was a central aspect of his and Christyne’s daily life. He was a longtime active member of Redeeming Love Fellowship Church, of Stittville. Stephen was ordained on October 31, 2022. Stephen and Christyne enjoyed traveling and sharing their faith with others through their ministry with Fellowship of Christian Farmers. The central part of his ministry was uniting men of all different denominations to focus their faith on our Savior.
He is survived by his wife Christyne Brown. Son, Stephen Brown married to Andrea (Salisbury) with grandchildren Benjamin, Asher, and Abigail. Daughter Helen Brown with Mario Segneri and granddaughter Isabelle Segneri. Step son Larry Greenway married to Tammy (Liebi) with grandchildren Taylor (Greenway) Hovey married to Adam with great-grandson Ronan; Jacob, and Megan. Sisters, Diantha E. Brown; Irma B. Farrow married to Tom; and brother Charles C. Brown. Mother in law Sylvia M. Hough; Brother-in-law Richard R. Hough II married to Angela (Kipp); Sister-in-law Tracey L. Bingham married to Chet. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as his beloved dog, Zaza.
He was predeceased by his parents, James Van Du Zee Brown and Irma B. Brown (Shoemaker). Sister Judy M. Eaton, Brother James Van Du Zee Brown. Father-in-law Richard R. Hough.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Redeeming Love Fellowship, 9011 NYS 365, Stittville, NY 13469, where calling hours will be held from 1-3 pm, followed by the funeral service from 3-4pm, with refreshments and fellowship to follow. For those unable to attend the service there will be live viewing available on Redeeming Love Fellowship Youtube Channel @reedeeminglovefellowship5915.
