Remsen- Stephen Richard Hitchcock, 72, passed away at his residence, on August 26, 2021, after a long and hard fought battle with cancer. Affectionately known as Steve, he was born in Albany, on May 17, 1949, a son of Dwight C. and Roberta Stillwell Hitchcock. At the age of ten he moved with his family to Remsen, where he graduated from Remsen Central School, with the Class of 1967. While in high school, Steve excelled at playing basketball. Steve was a decorated Vietnam War Veteran, who was proud to have served his country in the US Marines. Later he enjoyed owning and operating Hitchcock Sanitation, Inc., and employment in construction and as a logger. He also raced stock cars. His greatest love was trapping and the woods. Steve's life can be summed up with a simple, "He loved and served his fellowman." He was always a dependable friend to many. Steve felt a very special bond with his fellow Marines and Veterans from all branches of the military. He was a life member and Past Commander of the Remsen VFW and a longtime member of the Tun Tavern Marine Corps League of Boonville. On May 18, 2002, Steve was united in marriage with Ronna Raposo, at their home in Remsen. In addition to his wife, Ronna, Steve is survived by his children, Stephen Hitchcock, New Jersey, Erin (Dale) Annis, Maryland, Brett Pavelich, New York, Jake Pavelich, New York and Lauri Hartman, New York; loved by his grandchildren, Cooper and Holden. Services with Military Rites will be Tuesday, at 11:00 A.M. in Boonville Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday 4-7 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
