Boonville- Stephen M. Biro, Sr., 82, a resident of Thayer Hill Road, since 1949, husband of the late Dorothy, passed away at his home on Thursday, April 6, 2006. Mr. Biro was born in Lakewood, Ohio, on August 20, 1923, a son of John L. and Mary E. Domanicky Biro. In 1928 his family moved to Port Leyden, and he has resided in the southern Lewis County area since then. On May 1, 1943, he entered the U.S. Army serving in the infantry, and as a longshoreman in the European Theater of WWII, specifically serving in the Invasion of Normandy, on June 6, 1944, Utah Beach in Northern France, and in the Rhineland. Mr. Biro was honorably discharged from the army on January 10, 1946. For the rest of his life Mr. Biro lived his life as a true patriotic American, raising and lowering his flag daily, and having great respect and love for his fellow comrades from WWII, and all veterans from other wars. On November 22, 1952, Stephen was united in marriage with Dorothy M. Oï¿(TM)Brien at St. Johnï¿(TM)s Church, Utica. Mrs. Biro died on November 25, 1987. From 1949 until 1963, Mr. Biro operated his own dairy farm and at the same time he was employed as a woodsman for the Johnson and McHale families. After that he was employed for Town of Leyden Highway Department, and then he was employed by Gaetano Construction Co. of Boonville. From 1973 until he retired in 1994, Mr. Biro was employed as a truck driver and mechanic for Barrett Paving Co. of Boonville. He was a member of St. Maryï¿(TM)s Church, Constableville, and a lifetime active member of both the Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. # 5538, and Charles J. Love Post American Legion, both of Boonville. Mr. Biroï¿(TM)s survivors include three sons and two daughters in law; Patrick S. Biro, Sr. and wife, Barbara, Frankfort, NY, Timothy D. Biro and Jeriann, Port Leyden, Stephen M. Biro, Jr., Lyons Falls, one daughter and son in law; Dorothy and Michael Keyes, Utica, fourteen grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two grandchildren; Patrick Stephen Biro, Jr. and Angel Rose Keyes, by two brothers; John and William Biro, by two sisters; Elizabeth Zielinski and Mary Prayer Service Monday at 9:30 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. at St. Maryï¿(TM)s Church, Constableville, with Rev. Lawrence Marullo as celebrant. Interment with Military Honors from Ft. Drum, Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W., and Tun Tavern Marine Corps League will follow at St. Patrickï¿(TM)s Cemetery, Constableville. Calling hours are Saturday 7-9 P.M. and Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charles J. Love Post American Legion.
