Stephen C. Dolan

February 21, 1943 — February 12, 2012

Boonville- Stephen C. Dolan, Sr. 68, owner of Headwaters Motor Lodge, Boonville, husband of the late Genevieve (Kornatowski) Dolan, passed away suddenly at his residence on Sunday, February 12, 2012. He was born on February 21, 1943, at the Dolan Homestead Farm at Locust Grove, a son of Robert M. and Loretta Stober Dolan. He received his education at Boonville High School. Mr. Dolan served his country as a medic in the U.S.Navy in the early 1960's. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Boonville, where he was first employed as a TV repairman for Bob Thayer at the Towne Shoppe in downtown Boonville. Stephen was untied in marriage with Genevieve "Genni" Kornatowski, on March 11, 1967, at St. Mary's Church, West Leyden, with Rev. James F. Lamitie officiating. This was a blessed union that endured for nearly thirty five years, until Mrs. Dolan passed away on January 5, 2002. On January 1, 1970, Stephen and his wife, Genni, purchased Regina's Coffee Shop and Restaurant, establishing the Gaslight Restaurant which became a quality eatery that was well known throughout the north country, serving the community for over thirty two years. On April 27, 1995, the Dolans purchased the Headwaters Motor Lodge, a prominent modern North Country motel that was established in 1973, by the Lansing family on Rt. 12 just north of Boonville. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Charles J. Love Post American Legion, both of Boonville, and he had served as a volunteer at the Utica Rescue Mission. Steve always looked forward with purpose and knew what he wanted. As an accomplished businessman of Boonville, he rarely had much idle time. However, he still enjoyed fishing, skiing and even playing tennis in earlier years. Although he endured much tragedy and sorrow, he never lost his faith. Never afraid to give his opinion, he was always willing to listen. Agree or disagree, one could not help but to respect him. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed. Our only consolation is that he passed away with a full heart and is dancing with Genni forever. Steve is survived by two sons, Stephen C. Dolan, Jr. Utica, Derek R. Dolan, Boonville; three sisters and brothers in law, Eileen (Ed) Pruckno, Elizabeth (Ed) Berger, all Boonville, Sally Dangerfield, HI, one brother and sister in law, Bernie (Marilyn) Dolan, Boonville; two sisters in law, Alice (Ki) Dolan, Holland Patent, Susan Kornatowski, West Leyden, two brothers in law, Larry (Mary) Kornatowski, and Larry Kent, all of Boonville, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Gevevieve, a son, Scott Dolan, in 1985, a sister, Rosemary Pruckno, in 2005, a brother in law, Stanley Pruckno, in 2008, a brother Bob Dolan, in 2011, and by a sister in law, Virginia Kent, in 1997. His Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, with interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
