Stanley J. Evans, 74, of Brookside Circle, a former resident of Mechanic St. Port Leyden, and husband of Nancy, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Lewis Co. General Hospital, Lowville, after a long illness. He was born in Lowville, on April 15, 1939, a son of Charles and Frances Schwenk Evans. Stanley grew up on the West Road near Turin, and attended school in Constableville, through the 11th grade. Later he earned his GED. For several years he and his brother in law, Patrick M. Kelly were partners in residential and commercial painting and wall papering throughout Lewis County. After that Mr. Evans was employed for several years as a carpenter for Law Bros. Construction Co. of Lyons Falls, before his employment with F.J. Smith & Sons Paving Co. of Constabelville, retiring in 2000. Stanley was united in marriage with Nancy A. Kelly on June 24, 1957, at St. Mary's Church, Constableville. After that the couple lived on the West Road, Turin, before moving to Port Leyden. He was a member of St. Hedwig's Church, Houseville and St. Mary's Church, Constableville. Mr. Evans practically grew up at the Snow Ridge Ski Area of Turin and became one of the premier downhill skiers in the east. While in high school, he was a member of the Junior National Ski Team, representing Northern New York in downhill ski racing in Reno, NV. He also participated in NASTAR Downhill Ski Racing, placing 3rd in his age group at Park City Utah. Later in another NASTAR event at Lake Tahoe CA, he was the winner for his age group and his son, Bruce, placed third in his age group, in the same race. For many years Stanley was a ski instructor and coach at Snow Ridge Ski Area of Turin. For several years he was the Team Instructor for the Eastern Demonstration Ski Team, a team that trained other ski team instructors and coaches on the east coast. For many years he coached Turin Little League teams and the Little League All Star Team. He enjoyed bowling on several Constableville and Turin area bowling teams and he enjoyed playing golf. Mr. Evans was an avid hunter; he was a member of Dreen Camp on the Fairchild Hunting Club. In addition to his wife, Nancy, Stanley is survived by one daughter, Lucinda M. Simpson, Port St. Lucie, Fla; two sons and daughters in law, Bruce M. and Kathleen, Watertown, Danial R. and Marcia, Chads Ford, PA; grandchildren, Amanda Simpson, Billy, and his wife, Becky, Luke and Alicia Evans and Michael and Jacob Evans. At the present time, Stanley was anticipating the birth of his first great grandchild, who is expected in August. He was predeceased by a son William J. who died in infancy in 1962, and by a brother, Charles H. "Sonny" Evans, on June 24, 1963, and by his son in law, Roger Simpson, in 2011. Also surviving are three sisters, Marilyn Morrow, Keystone Heights, Fla, Beverly (Ramon) Myers, Myerstown, PA, and Aletha (Howard) Cook, Festus, Missouri. His Funeral will be Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc, 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, and interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Constableville.
