Boonville- Sophie was born in November of 1944 in Syracuse, NY at St. Mary’s Hospital. In February 1945 she moved to St. Joseph’s Home in Utica and after, moved to Rome Developmental Center. She then moved to Upstate Caring Partners in 1988. Sophie passed away on 7/1/23 at the age of 78. She resided at Sheehan IRA. Her advocate was Kerry King. She had many friends and everyone who knew her loved her.
Sophie was small in stature, but her personality was larger than life. She enjoyed shopping and took pride in her appearance. She always enjoyed compliments. Having her nails and hair done was relaxing and fun for her. Music was something that made her smile and she would often sing and hum as she was walking about. She had an affinity for blankets and would sign her desire to have one made available.
In her younger years, she enjoyed grocery shopping and would assist with obtaining groceries for her house. She was great at engaging her friends when socializing, even though she was non-verbal. She enjoyed surprising and teasing her friends and staff.
She will be missed by her many Upstate Caring Partners family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 10, 2023, at 11:30 A.M. at St. joseph’s Church, Boonville, where Rev. Matthew Rawson, pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in Boonville Cemetery. Visitation hours are Monday from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
