Lyons Falls- Sophie M. Sweeney, 91, formerly of Seymour Ave, widow of Charles, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2012, under the care of her loving family at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville. She was born in Turin, on October 30, 1920, a daughter of John H. and Caroline (Burdzy) Rudnik. Sophie grew up in Kelpytown, and attended school in Port Leyden. On November 8, 1941, she was united in marriage with Charles H. Sweeney, at St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden, with Rev. F.P Diviney officiating. In 1951 the couple moved to their home on Seymour Ave, where she lived until entering the nursing home in June, 2010. Mrs. Sweeney was a homemaker; she greatly enjoyed gardening, ornamental and fruit trees, cooking, family fishing days and being with her family. Sophie is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Richard and Judy Sweeney, Constableville, David and Donna Sweeney, Forestport; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, on October 29, 1997; a son, Donald, on December 12, 1998; two sisters, Stella (Edward) Zimmer, Angeline (Robert) Shue; and a brother, John Rudnik, Jr. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, where Rev. Sean Patrick O'Brien, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden. In keeping with her wishes there is no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lyons Falls Ambulance Fund. Her arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville.
