Port Leyden- Shirley I. (Meeker) Finster, 82, a longtime resident of Shaver Road and widow of Carlton, passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at the home of her daughter and son in law, Kathy and John Tucker, Town of Greig, while surrounded by the loving care of her family and hospice. Shirley was born in Alder Creek, on September 4, 1936, a daughter of Harry and Nina Denslow Meeker. She grew up on Echo Lake Road, near Boonville and attended Echo Lake Rural School, at the corner of Potato Hill and Echo Lake Roads. Later she continued her education at Boonville Central School. She married Herbert Reese and later the couple was divorced. She married Carlton Finster; he passed away on February 28, 1997. She was employed as a waitress at Slims Restaurant, in the Union Block, Boonville and as a waitress at Fulmers Diner, Boonville, Sargents Chair Factory, Boonville; her last employment was for 15 years for Adirondack House Keepers, Croghan, retiring in 2016. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing Bingo and traveling with her family. Shirley is survived by seven daughters and six sons in law, Sharon (Tim) Thayer, Port Leyden, Bonnie (Dean) Reese-Keefer, Lyons Falls, Robin Lyndaker, Remsen, Donna (Robert) Finster-Farr, Lyons Falls, Michelle (Forest) Farr, Lyons Falls, Kathy (John) Tucker, Greig, Carla (David) Keefer, Lowville; one son and daughter in law, Carlton (Deanna) Finster, II, Croghan; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; Dad, Harry, February 28, 1970, Mom, August 16, 1964, her husband, Carlton, of 36 years; two children who passed away as infants; Mary Lou on December 16, 1963 and David, October 14, 1970; a grandson, David Finster, 2003; son in law, Robert Lyndaker, December 17, 2014; two brothers, Donald Meeker, January 1, 1996, Douglas Meeker, February 25, 2005; three sisters, Laverne Lusby, August 8, 1997, Audrey Redner, August 22, 2000 and Charlotte Meeker, October 2, 2010. Her family wishes to extend a heartfelt note of thanks to Lewis County Hospice Care, Inc. for the kind and compassionate care which they gave to Shirley and especially acknowledging Fern Lyndaker, for her many visits which brought joy to Shirleys days. Her Funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Rev. Deacon Tom Yousey, of St. Peters Church, Lowville, will officiate. A spring interment will be in Point Rock Cemetery, Town of Lee. Calling hours are Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral.
