Shirley A. Joslin

Turin- Shirley A. (Kellogg) Joslin, wife of Charles F. a lifelong resident of the Town of Turin, and more recently of Brookside Senior Living Center, Lowville, passed away at her home while surrounded by the loving care of her family and hospice on Thursday, April 7, 2016. A native of the Town of Turin, Shirley was born on February 20, 1938, a daughter of James F. and Viola Rudd Kellogg. She attended Turin Union School through 6th grade, completing her education at General Martin Central School, Glenfield, where she graduated with the Class of 1956. For fourteen years thereafter, Mrs. Joslin was employed for Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service of Lowville. On December 7, 1957, Shirley was united in marriage with Charles F. Joslin at the First Presbyterian Church, Boonville. After that the couple settled in Turin and Shirley assumed the role of mother raising her family. In the 1970's Mrs. Joslin was elected Town Clerk and Tax Collector for the Town of Turin, also serving as Village Clerk for five years. In addition, Shirley served on the Turin Town Board making a total of 25 years of dedicated service to the Town of Turin. For many years she was Historian for the Town of Turin. Later, for many years Mrs. Joslin was employed as Pay Roll Clerk for the Lord-Bec Power Co. Port Leyden, during the construction of the 765 K-V Powerline through Northern New York. Her last employment was as an Account Clerk at Howard G. Sackett Center BOCES, Glenfield, retiring in July, 1996, after 17 years of service. Shirley is survived by her husband, Charles, her son Samuel (Wanda) Joslin, Croghan, and grandchildren Riley, Kirsten and Cooper Joslin. She was predeceased by her daughter Jayna M. Kent on October 24, 2015. Also surviving is her son-in-law John Kent, Rome, a sister Beverly (Walt) Kinel, Port Leyden, and brothers Russell Kellogg, Lowville, Ervin (Christine) Kellogg, Leeds, Carl Kellogg, Constableville, and Charles (Evelyn) Kellogg, Dickson, TX. She was predeceased by her brothers: Richard, Lloyd, and Harold, and her sister Loretta Hill. Funeral Services will be held on Monday April 11, at 12:00 noon at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Interment will follow in Turin Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 5-8, and again on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
