Sharon Williamson Gibbons, 58, of Deer Hollow Road, Forestport, wife of Michael, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, while surrounded by her loving family at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Boonville, after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer. Sharon was born in Boonville, on November 18, 1947, a daughter of the late Franklin Leewood and Phyllis Konik Williamson. She grew up in Boonville, where she attended school, graduating from Boonville Central High School with the Class of 1965. From early childhood on, Sharon was employed in the operation Williamsonï¿(TM)s Market. As a child she worked with her grandmother, Veronica Williamson in making salads for the store deli, and later throughout her school, and college years, she was employed in all aspects of the store operation. In 1969, Sharon earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Brockport State University and in September, 1969, she began her elementary teaching career at Remsen Central School, a career that spanned thirty four years. Mrs. Gibbons had a passion for teaching, and a great love for children. On November 30, 1974, Sharon was united in marriage to Michael H. Gibbons at Historic Old St. Johnï¿(TM)s Catholic Church of Utica. Sharon had a great love of life and people. She was a very active member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Boonville, where she served as a Church Worden. Her other memberships include the Remsen Teachers Resource Center, where she served on the policy board the N.Y.S. United Teachers, who awarded her a life time achievement award, in recognition of her many years of competent and dedicated service to the union. Her other memberships include; Bear Creek Lodge, Treasurer of Adirondack Forever Wild Garden Club, the Scatter Red Hatters, Boonville History Club, Remsen-Steuben Historical Society, and current President of Boonville-Adirondack Central School Alumni Association. In addition to her husband, Michael, Sharon is survived by one daughter Molly Gibbons, Canton, one son, Franklin Gibbons, Forestport, two sisters; Nancy (Peter) Geiskopf, Manlius, Heidi (Ed) Stabb, Boonville, a brother; Michael (Linda Lawton) Williamson, Baldwinsville, one aunt; Marion Williamson, Boonville, two uncles; Dr. Willis Williamson, Nicaragua, Kenneth (Esther) Paddock, Boonville, three brothers in law; Terrence (Doris) Gibbons, Staten Island, Henry (Christine Olsen) Gibbons, Pasadena, CA., Timothy Gibbons, Freeport, Long Island, two sisters in law; Marie (Robert) Barned, Camden, N.J., Ann (Jack) Ruppenthal, Bricktown, N.J. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. Sharonï¿(TM)s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to her entire medical team: Dr. Robert Burke, her primary care physician, Dr. Alicia DeTraglia, oncology, Merry Tuttle, RN., to the sisters and staff of the ER and the Oncology Unit at St. Elizabethï¿(TM)s Medical Center, Utica, to the doctors and staff of Faxton-St. Lukeï¿(TM)s Cancer Center, and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA. Her family also extends a heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staffs of Hospice and Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their loving and compassionate care. Her family also expresses a kind note of thanks and appreciation to her friends and neighbors for all their loving support, and to the faith communities of Boonville and Remsen, with a special note of appreciation to Rev. Mother Logan, of Trinity Episcopal Church, Boonville, and to her life long friend, Rev. Fr. Donald H. Karlen. Flowers are gratefully declined, however, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 121 Ford St. Boonville, NY 13309. Her Funeral will be Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Schuyler St. Boonville, where Rev. Linda Logan will officiate with the Requiem Eucharist. Interment will follow in Boonville Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. with a Vigil Service at 9 P.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, NY.
