Constableville – Sandra (Sandy) Marie (Felshaw) Roberts, 70, crossed over into Heaven on October 1, 2023, peacefully in the comfort of her home, next to her best girl.
Sandy was born on September 26, 1953, at Sunset Maternity Hospital, Constableville, the daughter of Robert “Barney” Felshaw and Amelia Cihocki. She attended South Lewis Central School and graduated with the class of 1971. Education was always important to Sandy; she was the first of her brothers and sisters to attend college and graduated from SUNY-Fredonia in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology. Sandy began her lifelong career with Lewis County Head Start shortly thereafter, becoming the Executive Director in 2006, and retiring in 2017 after nearly 42 years with the program. Following her “retirement”, Sandy then became the Executive Director of Constable Hall in 2018, where she again “retired” in 2020.
Sandy was united in marriage to Dale William Roberts in 1975; from that union produced her greatest achievement. Sandy is survived by her daughter, best friend and #1 cookie, Ashley Marie, and partner Corey Skurpski. In addition, she had the distinct privilege of being “Fairy Godmother” to her niece, Wendy Moxley - a true confidante and forever friend. Sandy will also be forever thankful for Alan; his presence always brought the biggest smile to her face. Sandy leaves behind her tribe of siblings; Cynthia (Dean) Moxley, Kim (Jackie Carpenter) Felshaw, Kevin (Chryl) Felshaw, Patricia (Frank) Platt and Annette (Phil) Szablewski. Sandy’s unwavering love and admiration for her many nieces and nephews, friends near and far, as well as every child she met will forever be remembered.
Sandy’s kind and generous spirit allowed her to serve her community through her volunteerism with the Constableville Volunteer Fire Company, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, C’Ville Fire Dept. Youth Group and anything else that was needed/Ashley volunteered her for. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional honor society of key women educators.
Based on her deep appreciation for peace and wholesomeness, Sandy enjoyed routine yoga practice with her “Yogis.” She will forever be thankful for the opportunities she was provided to give back to herself and others through volunteer work in Puerto Rico, with the help of Wholesome Living. Fondly remembered as our ‘water baby,’ Sandy relished any opportunity to be near or around water. She loved kayaking, swimming, fishing, rock sliding and sandy beach sitting. Fowlerville will never be the same.
Whether it was a broad shoulder or a soft place to land, a morning walk in the dew-filled grass or finding a sunny spot on a rock at Moose River, Sandy was always your go-to girl. Forever the free spirit, Sandy found the greatest comfort and understanding in nature. She cherished every plant and animal and her green thumb was second to none. Whether it was an apple orchard, blueberry or blackberry bush, grape vine, hollyhock or sunflower, horseradish plant or vegetable garden, you could always find it (and then some) in Sandy’s backyard. Sandy’s infectious love of life and appreciation for living in the moment will forever go unmatched. She was always able to find the bright spot in any situation and her ability to embrace the ebb and flow of life was remarkable. She will be remembered for living each day to the fullest, appreciating both the sunny and cloudy skies and always knowing when the full moon was.
Calling hours will be Thursday, October 5th, from 4-8pm at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville. A Catholic funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 11am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Constableville with internment at Rural Cemetery, Constableville at 12pm. A procession past some of Sandy’s most cherished places will begin that same day at Trainor’s at 10am. A luncheon will be held at the Constableville Volunteer Fire Company Fire Hall following internment. Food donations may be dropped off that same day, beginning at 10am. Memorial contributions may be made to Constable Hall or to Constableville Volunteer Fire Department in Sandy’s name.
