Boonville- Sandra Cecelia (Smith) Kowalik, 75, of Third St. passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Rome Health.
Affectionately known as Sandi, she was born in Lowville, on December 11, 1948, a daughter of Maxim and Rosalind May Wilcox Smith. She grew up in Lyons Falls and received her education at Lyons Falls Elementary School, before graduating from Boonville Central School, with the Class of 1967. On August 10, 1968, Sandi was married to Walter William Kowalik, at St. Joseph’s Church, Boonville. Later the couple was divorced.
Sandi was first employed as an operator for General Telephone Co., Boonville, before several years of employment as manager of the Victory Video Store, at Boonville’s Great American. Later she was employed as a receptionist for Dr. Battista, before several years of employment as an Elder Care Giver, private duty in Boonville area homes.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Boonville. Sandi enjoyed shopping and attending garage sales, however, her favorite aspect of her life was spending time with her grandchildren and loved ones.
Sandi is survived by her mother, Rosalind Smith; children, Kimberly (Mark) Kovach, Brantingham, Amy Kowalik and significant other, Joseph Podkowka, Jr., Rebecca Kowalik Gleasman and her significant other, Mike Patterson, all of Boonville, Ashlee (Nick) Reppard, Cicero; grandchildren, Alexander Pfendler, Tyler Kovach, Dakota Kline, Brent Kline, Lansing Mckee, IV, Madison McKee, Bailey Gleasman, Brady Gleasman and Reese Reppard; four great-grandchildren: Tanner, Maddox, Aspen and Brayden, her siblings, Linda Almalfitano, Robert and Richard Smith and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Maxim, infant brother and sister, Timothy and Elizabeth, a sister Susan Compo and uncle, Vincent James Smith.
In keeping with Sandi’s wishes there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Matthew Rawson, on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Church, Boonville. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden. Following the funeral services all are invited to continue to celebrate Sandi’s life at the Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Boonville from 12:00 Noon until 4:00 pm. Donations of food may be dropped off on July 2nd from 10:00 am on. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
