Boonville- Ruth V. Hughes, age 100, a long time resident of East Schuyler St., widow of Cleo, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2015, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabiliation Center, Boonville, where she had resided since March of 2015. She was born in Remsen, on August 12, 1914, a daughter of C. Ray and May A. Humphrey Harvey. Ruth moved to Boonville, with her family in 1922, and graduated from Boonville High School, with the Class of 1932. There after she continued her education attending Tarkio College, Tarkio, MO, where she met her future husband, and love of her life, Cleo L. Hughes, whom she married on December 25, 1934, at the home of the bride, on Summit St. Boonville. In 1952, the couple moved to their present home. Ruth was owner and bookkeeper, first for C. Hughes Ford Motor Garage, in Boonville, and later for C. Hughes Hardware, also Boonville. Together, they operated their businesses and enjoyed a very adventurous life. Mr. Hughes died on December 18, 1979. Mrs. Hughes was a 90 year member of the Boonville United Methodist Church, where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher for several years, taught in Vacation Bible School, was a member of United Methodist Women, and had served on various church boards. She was also a member of Salma Chapter OES, Boonville, Boonville Historical Club and she enjoyed reading. Ruth is survived by two daughters, Mary Lucille (Guy) Bush, Edinburg, TX, and Nancy H. Scherz, Boonville; nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and many great great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Young, Lincoln, NE, and Barbara Schweinsberg, Boonville. She was predeceased by sisters, Margaret Hays, Mary Wendt, and Rae Marcy and by one brother, Robert Harvey. Her Funeral will be Friday at 11:00 A.M. at Boonville United Methodist Church, where Pastor Daniel Richter, will officiate. Interment will be later this spring in Boonville Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday 4-8 p.m. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Boonville United Methodist Church.
