Ruth (Coleman) Dean, 84, of Soule Road, Steuben Corners, widow of O. Frank Dean, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at St. Lukeï¿(TM)s Home, New Hartford, after a long illness. A native of Steuben, Ruth was born on February 19, 1922, a daughter of Glenn and Minnie Smith Coleman. She grew up in Steuben Corners, and graduated from Holland Patent High School, and then she graduated from Oneonta State Teachers College. Mrs. Dean was an elementary school teacher at Grand Gorge Central School, Remsen Central School, and Saratoga Springs School System. For over twenty years she taught elementary grades for Rome School System retiring in 1978. On April 12, 1952, Ruth was united in marriage with O. Frank Dean in Boonville. Mr. Dean died on December 31, 1980. Ruth was a member and past treasurer of Steuben United Methodist Church, and she served as secretary-treasurer for Steuben Corners Cemetery. She was also a member of Retired Teachers Association of Rome, AARP, and the Remsen-Steuben Historical Society. Ruth is survived by one son and daughter in law; Leslie F. and Terry L. Dean, Steuben Corners, three grandchildren; Amanda, Jonathan, Samantha and many nieces and nephews. The last of her family, she was predeceased by two sisters; Lena Carver, Margaret VanSufflin, and eight brothers; Erwin, Ivan, Stuart, Earl, Howard, Harold, Russell and Douglas. In keeping with Ruthï¿(TM)s wishes there are no calling hours. Family services will be Friday at 3 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Interment will be in Sidney Cemetery, Sidney, NY (Delaware Co.) Memorial contributions may be made to Steuben United Methodist Church.
