Ruth E. Campany, 79, of East Main Street, widow of Harold N. Campany, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2008, at Lewis County Extended Care Facility, Lowville, after a long illness. She was born May 18, 1928, a daughter of Asa and Jasmine Simser Egelston, in the Town of Lyonsdale, where she grew up and attended school. On May 17, 1947 she was united in marriage with Harold L. Campany at the West Carthage Methodist Church by Rev. John Wetzel. Following their marriage the couple lived in Lowville and Boonville before settling in Port Leyden. For twenty years Ruth was employed in the South Lewis High School Cafeteria, retiring as Head Cook. She greatly enjoyed cooking and for many years she catered for many people in the Boonville, Port Leyden and Lyons Falls areas. Mr. Campany died August 14, 1988. Ruth was of the Methodist faith. She was a Charter Member of the Port Leyden Firemen?s Ladies Auxiliary, the Dewey Old Forge Chapter #449 Order of the Eastern Star, the Monday Club of Port Leyden, and was a Life Member of the New York State Food Service Association. She is survived by two daughters: Donna Campany of Port Leyden, and Mrs. Gerald (Deborah) Kranbuhl of Boonville; one son: Gary Campany and his companion Debbie Pignone of Port Leyden; two grandsons: Jeremy and Jason Kranbuhl; a sister-in-law: Emily Adams of Boonville; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant granddaughter: Stacey Kranbuhl; a brother: Joseph Egelston; and a sister: Beatrice Waligory. The Funeral Service for Mrs. Campany will be at 11 am Wednesday at the Trainor Funeral Home, 143 Schuyler St., Boonville, with Rev. William A. Mudge, Pastor of the Boonville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the spring in Port Leyden Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the funeral home, where members of the Dewey Old Forge Chapter O.E.S. will conduct a service at 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made the Port Leyden Ambulance Fund, Port Leyden, NY 13433 or to the American Diabetes Association, 356 North Midler Ave., Syracuse, NY 13206.
