Boonville - Russell L. Glindmyer, 87, husband of Irene, longtime resident of Boonville, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, following a brief illness. Russ was born on March 6, 1935 in Schenectady, New York the son of Lawrence and Helen Matthews Glindmyer. He grew up in Scotia, NY, where he graduated from Scotia High School. On November 10, 1952, Russ enlisted in the US Air Force, where he served in Korea during the Korean War as an airplane mechanic. After Korea he was stationed in Sioux City, Iowa until his honorable discharge on November 9, 1956. During his stay in Iowa he met and married Cleo Hamann. The couple eventually settled in the town of Floyd, NY. They shared a daughter, Teri Lynn, who passed away at the age of 11, and a son, Russell, who passed away in infancy. Russ was predeceased by his wife Cleo in 1971. Russ had a long career as an aircraft mechanic and machinist, starting with the Air Force and moving on to Mohawk Airlines at the Oneida County Airport. He continued with the airline, at many locations, through the big strike, the merger with Allegheny Airlines and the renaming to US Air, retiring in 1992 from US Air in Pittsburgh, PA. While with the Air Force and airlines, Russ made many life long friends. On July 2, 1974, Russ was united in marriage with Irene Baldeshwiler in Trenton NY. Soon after, they relocated to Evans City PA. Russ and Irene lived there for 18 years until Russ retired in 1992. They settled in Boonville shortly after Russ retired. Russ and Irene enjoyed twenty summers at their camp on East Musquash Lake in Topsfield, ME. Russ was an outdoors enthusiast; hunting, fishing, sailing, camping, canoeing, and motorcycling into his 70's, he enjoyed it all. Russ was a talented wood craftsman, making many priceless gifts and beautiful cedar strip canoes. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, and was a longtime member of the Lost Trail Snowmobile Club, where he also volunteered as a trail groomer. His family and close friends appreciated his wonderful, quick-witted and clever sense of humor, and adored his many colorful stories including several cautionary tales. Russ is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Irene, his five red-headed step children: Debbera (John) Finster, Evans Mills, NY, Linda (George) Mingos, Ava, NY, Daniel Baldeshwiler, Cleveland, NY, Jane Fend, Slippery Rock, PA, and Donald Baldeshwiler, II, Holland Patent, NY; 12 grandchildren: John, Sharon, Laurie, Steven, Michael, Todd, Tim, Teresa, Danielle, Brian, Bradley and Brianna, and 29 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the outstanding care given to Russ during his time there. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 11, at 1:00 pm at Townsend Cemetery, Stittville. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
