Ronald Lee York

Ronald Lee York, from Oneonta, New York, a former resident of Kelpytown, near Port Leyden, New York, passed away at his son's residence in Schenevus, New York, on Tuesday Januaury 25th 2022. He was born in New Bremen, New York (Lewis County) on December 27th 1935, a son of Lee and Marion Davis York. Ronald grew up on a dairy farm in West Turin, having also lived earlier in Lowville and on a farm near Boonville, New York. He graduated from General Martin Central School, Glenfield and briefly attended SUNY Morrisville and Utica College. After spending two years as a radar Operator in the US Army, he worked at Gould Paper Company in Lyon Falls and Westinghouse in Utica. On April 25th 1959, Ronald was united in marriage with his loving wife Mavis Ann Evans at the Forest Presbyterian Church, in Lyons Falls, New York. Mr. York began a thirty year career in Law Enforcement at Griffiss Air Force Base, ending his career as a Criminal Investigator-Supervisor in September 1992. During this time he also attended Mohawk Valley Community College where he graduated with an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice. He completed his formal education by graduating from SUNY at Utica-Rome with a Bachelor's Degree in Public Service. Mr York was a past member of the South Lewis School Board of education in Turin, New York during the 1977 thru 1983 school years. He served as school board president in 1982 and 1983. He retired in September 1992 and moved to his present home near Oneonta. He then spent the next fifteen years employed by Wilber National Bank and Community Bank N.A. Retiring in September 2015. He is predeceased by Mavis, his wife and two daughters, Mary Beth and Linda Lee Richards. He is the brother of the late Kenneth Eugene York and Elizabeth Jane (Betty) Lilholt, and Duane Charles (Todd)York. He is survived by his sons Griffith and Carly York, and David and Debra Croft York, 8 crandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Per his request there will be no calling hours. A small service will be held at Turin cemetery later this summer.
