d. October 2, 2007

On October 2, 2007, Ronald L. Ward passed away, being comforted by his beloved wife Jean; sons, Jeffrey and Andrew, and his mother Barbara, after a long and courageous fight with cancer, in Florida. Ron was brought up in Patterson, NY. He married Jean Ward in 1965 and they lived on Long Island until 1967, when they bought a home in Steuben, where they raised their boys. In 1991 he and his wife bought a home on Echo Lake in Boonville, and in 2002 they bought a home in Leesburg, FL at Pennbrooke Fairways. Ron taught art in the Holland Patent School system for over thirty years where he shared his love of life and learning with students and fellow teachers. He also coached football, wrestling, and golf for many years. After his retirement in 1996, he was a volunteer golf coach for Adirondack Central School. He impacted so many both during his career and afterwards. He was a devoted father, always committed to his family; loved to hunt; enjoyed fishing- especially with his daughter-in-law Jennifer; spent hours tying flies for fly fishing; and was well known for his love of golf. He played golf as a professional in the northeast for several years in the 70ï¿(TM)s, then returned to amateur status. Ron qualified twice for the New York State Amateur, three times for the Senior Amateur; won the Senior Division of the Utica City Amateur; held 18 club championships at various courses to which he belonged; and still holds 5 course records. In addition to his wife, Jean, he leaves his son Andrew with wife, Jennifer, and grandsons, Samuel, and Eli of New Hartford, NY; his son, Jeffrey and girl friend, Carla, of Windermere, FL; two brothers and their wives, Peter and Jeanne Ward of Remsen, William and Dottie Ward of Fleischmanns, NY; his sister, Janet Kemp of Naples, FL; his mother, Barbara Ward of Leesburg, FL, together with many nieces and nephews. Ron was a member of the Boonville United Methodist Church and the Community Church of Pennbrooke Fairways. A memorial service was held in Pennbrooke Fairways on October 7, and a memorial service will be held at the Boonville United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 20, at 3:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice, the Boonville Methodist Church, 105 Ann St., Boonville, NY 13309, or the Mohawk Valley Junior Golf Tour, c/o Rome Country Club, 5342 Rome-Taberg Road, Rome, NY 13440.
