Town of Steuben- Roger E. Carr, Sr, 68, of Latteiman Road, passed away at his residence on Friday, April 3, 2015, while surrounded by the loving care of his wife, family and hospice, after a heroic battle with cancer. He was born in Watertown, on March 6, 1947, a son of Victor, and Marjorie Beavens Carr; Roger grew up in Watertown, where he graduated from high school with the Class of 1965. Afterwards he was employed for Coke Cola Bottling Co. Watertown, until July, 1966, when he entered the US Army, serving first at Ft. Bragg, NC, before serving in the Vietnam War as a member of the 6th BN 82D Artillery Division, until 1967. In July, 1968 he transferred to the Army Reserves, serving until his honorable discharge, with the rank of Corporal, on July 5, 1972. For 35 years, Mr. Carr was employed as a printing press operator at Vicks Lithograph and Printing Corp. of Yorkville, NY, retiring in 2005; after that he was employed for a time as a grounds keeper at Crestwood Golf Course, Marcy. Roger greatly enjoyed playing golf and for many years he participated on the Vicks Lithograph Golf Team. On September 10, 1965, Roger was united in marriage with Susanne Pierce in Brewerton, NY. The couple lived in Utica, before moving to Bridgewater, where they lived for twenty years. In 1986, the couple settled at their present home in the Town of Steuben. Mr. Carr was a longtime member of Harland J. Hennessey Post VFW of Boonville, where he served as Commander for two terms. He was a founder of the annual Vietnam Veterans Get Together, which is held each June at the Hennessey VFW Post in Boonville. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the event. Roger was also a member of Charles J. Love Post American Legion # 406, Boonville, and the Disabled American Veterans. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Roger, Jr. and his wife, Patty, Remsen, Jestin and his wife, Jennifer, Boonville; two daughters, Rebecca Hartman and her husband, Brian, Floyd, Noel Carr and her fiance, Adam Stocklosa, Steuben; four grandchildren, Tiffany, Katlyn, Hunter and Makenna; two sisters, Doddie Stiles, Sangerfield, Christina Carr, Watertown; two brothers, Skeet (Jenny) Carr, Watertown, and Donnie (Kathy) Carr, Adams; his step father, John Cavallaro, Syracuse. He was predeceased by his special brother in law, Tom Stiles and by his mother, Marjorie Cavallaro, and by his father, Victor Carr. A private memorial service will be held, there will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. 4277 Middle Settlement Road New Hartford, NY 13413, or to raise funds to bring the Viet Nam Mobil Wall to Boonville later this summer, in care of Harland J. Hennessey Post VFW, Park Ave. Boonville, NY 13309. His arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville.
