Locust Grove- Robert J. Weiler, 85, of State Rt. 12D, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at Lewis Co. General Hospital, Lowville, after a long illness. He was born on the Weiler family farm on the Fish Creek Road, Town of West Turin, on September 18, 1928, a son of George and Pearl M. Kaido Weiler. He grew up on the Fish Creek Road, and received his education at West Leyden Central School. Before he began his logging career he worked as fire fighter for the forestry service in McKeever and at Benson Mines. For several years he was employed as a logger for Gould Paper Co. of Lyons Falls, in forests throughout northern New York. After that he continued his employment for Gould Paper Co. and then for Georgia Pacific Paper Co. also Lyons Falls, as a paper machine operator, retiring from Lyons Falls Pulp & Paper Co. in the early 1990's. On September 6, 1952, Robert was united in marriage with Betty J. Dean, at St. John's Church, Lyons Falls. After that the couple lived in Lyons Falls, before moving to their present home in 1963. Mrs. Weiler, an employee of the Company Home of Gould Paper Co. died on October 15, 1992. Mr. Weiler attended St. Mary's Church, West Leyden. He greatly enjoyed raising vegetables and flowers hunting and the outdoors. He is survived by one son, Bruce A. Weiler, at home, one daughter and son in law, Katrina and Larry Beltowski, Locust Grove; three grandchildren, Adrian Weiler, David Beltowski and Kevin Beltowski, two great grandchildren, Robert and Mia Weiler. He was predeceased by a grandson, Christian David Beltowski on October 25, 1981. Also surviving are three brothers and two sisters in law, George and Shirley Weiler, West Leyden, Theodore, Lyons Falls, and his twin, Norbert and Beverly Weiler, Boonville; and two sisters, Adeline Croniser, West Leyden and Pearl Waldron, Lowville. He was predeceased by brothers, Alvin, Ambrose, Leslie L. and Thomas, Clayton, a half brother, Michael Weiler, and by a sister, Luella Brinkerhoff. He is also survived by long time close friends, Virginia Burke and Polly Weiler. His Funeral will be Tuesday at 9:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, and at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Church, Constableville, where Rev. Lawrence Marullo, pastor will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
